If you pack the right travel essentials in your carry-on, it will make for a much more enjoyable flight. Not to mention, that luggage often gets lost, so it’s nice to have all the right stuff with you if this happens to you. Here’s my travel essentials checklist to help you have a great trip.
Travel Essentials For Your Carry-On
1. Pen And Paper
I always make sure to pack both a pen and paper in my carry-on. You often need a pen to fill out immigration forms, and I often have inspirational ideas while flying that I want to write down.
2. Pajamas, Extra Outfit, Underwear, and Bathing Suit
In case your luggage does get lost, you want to have some clothing, so you don’t have to go shopping right away. I always pack the outfits I would need for one day.
3. Water Bottle
Water in the airport is expensive, so I take an empty water bottle and fill it at the water fountain before getting on the plane. I like the MIU water bottle made of glass which also includes a strainer to make tea or fruit-infused water in the bottle. I love to infuse my water with lavender and mint.
4. Chargers For Electronics And Power Strip
There’s nothing worse than being stranded without the chargers for your electronics. Make sure to pack these in your carry-on. I also carry a small travel power strip. Often, most of the outlets at the airport are taken, and this allows me to charge all of my electronics at once. If I am traveling internationally, I also make sure to pack a universal adapter plug.
5. Toiletry Bag
I like to put my toiletry bag in my carry-on, so I can freshen up during my layover. Also, if you bag gets lost, this is one of the travel essentials you will be glad you packed in your carry-on. Along with makeup, I take a toothbrush, toothpaste, medicines, face wash, deodorant, lavender essential oil, ibuprofen, eye drops, and this awesome elf eye refresh to freshen up my eyes.
6. My Kindle Fire
I wouldn’t be able to survive a long airplane flight without my Kindle Fire. I load it up with books and magazines before traveling, and the best part is I can also watch movies on it. I also listen to music while in-flight by attaching my headphones.
Most airlines now charge for snacks, so I make sure to pack granola bars, trail mix, beef jerky, and other snacks for the flight. I also pack gum in case my ears start bothering me.
My headphones are a lifesaver on flights. It helps block the noise of crying babies and conversations that I don’t want to hear. I like the Beats Noise Canceling headphones.
There’s nothing more soothing than a cup of hot tea during a flight. I pack my own tea bags, and just ask the flight attendant for some hot water.
10. Eye Mask and Ear Plugs
I often like to sleep on airplanes, so I make sure to take an eye mask and ear plugs to help block light and sound. For more advice on how to sleep on an airplane, see my article here.
